Backache Problem?
Backache was earlier a medical condition restricted to adults and elderly people. However, now a days, students, youngsters, adults all get backache. Backache can be blamed on poor body postures like slouching, not sitting erect, sitting at the same place for a long time, working on the computer without break, poor sleeping postures etc.
Backache can be attributed to the sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activities, neglect of one’s own health and fitness. Many of us bend more than we should, lie down with our stomach on the bed and read, do not use a table for writing and bend our back too much, slouch on a chair while sitting before television or while working on a computer or while listening to lectures.
Backache can also result from poor traffic conditions on the road. Huge holes on the road, bumps, long hours of sitting in the bus, carrying heavy bags creates additional pressure. School children especially get backache due to the many number of things that they have to carry to school.
Backache can be reduced/prevented if you practice exercises focused on the region. For example, stand erect with your feet placed a few distance apart from each other. Rotate your hips in the clockwise and then anti clockwise direction for 10 times each. Do this slowly. Feel the movement in your hips and back while doing this. This exercise performed on a daily basis is likely to prevent stiffness and pain.
Another exercise is to stand erect with your legs touching each other. Raise your hands and bring it down to touch the floor without bending the knees, hold there for a moment and then go back to original position. Repeat this 10 times.
You can also stand with your legs apart, place your hands on the hips and then turn your body to the right focusing on the movement in the back and abdomen, hold for a moment and get back to original position. Then turn to the left side, hold for a moment and come back to original position.
