Ayurveda For Migraine
A migraine is a headache which causes severe pain to the person who experiences it. It is caused due to vascular fluctuations in the brain. People with migraine are incapacitated to an extent where they cannot do anything normally. The other symptoms are breathlessness, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound.
Ayurveda attributes all illnesses to three doshas (ill effects) in the body. They are namely:
Vata – air and space
Pitta- fire and water
Kapha – water and earth
Ayurveda is based on dealing with the above-mentioned attributes that contribute to the overall health of the body. If all of them are working fine, then there are no problems in health. But if any one of them are ruined or impaired, then the effects begin to show in the body.
Ayurveda says that an impaired Vata in the body causes migraine. Vata is said to control all activities in the brain. Any altering of its quality causes an imbalance. This imbalance can come through improper eating habits, stress, poor sleep, constant exposure of eyes to television or computer monitors, bad reading habits etc.
Migraine can also be caused due to constant and improper intake or exposure to cold things, that the body can’t handle. It can also be caused due to over-exposure to the sun. It has been also found out that migraine can run in the family.
The approach of Ayurveda
Ayurveda gets to the root of the problem
Patients are diagnosed based on their medical history, and lifestyle. The doctor will diagnose a patient based on their Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurvedic consultations are lengthy because the doctor asks the patient on lifestyle related topics like sleep, profession, health history, stressful stimuli, and other demographic details. Ayurveda does take into account findings from clinical tests.
