Are You Short Tempered?
Short tempered individuals may have an extreme personality. They may have a quick, sudden outburst of emotions, anger, irritation, upset, agitation and they may cool down as easily as they get heated up. It may be difficult to control this sudden outburst. It may pour out even before you realize and can stop it.
People tend to be cautious and wary of short tempered people as they may not be able to gauge when the person may lose temper, and the situation may become embarrassing, violent, abusive if not handled carefully. People around may prefer to not share contentious, conflicting, debatable issues with you for fear of the sudden backlash.
Short temper may be a very natural reaction, in the sense that your feelings, thoughts that provoke the short temper may be correct, but there may just be a misplaced way of expressing it. Getting rid of this temper or behaviour may not come easily, however, with persistent exercise of control, discipline, simulation exercises and mind control exercises, short temper can be reduced.
Self consciousness can be a best way to check your tendencies. Watch your tendencies. The moment you realize that you are going to trip, guard yourself; use all your restraint to quell the desire to throw your temper. At the same time, suppressing the issue that causes temper should be addressed, albeit in polite, low geared way, so that the anger, disappointment within you is let out.
Use simulation technique. Think up situations that can provoke anger or lead to short temper. Think out various ways of addressing it and introspect on them. You may feel that other methods are better and probably more worthy than the normal course you would choose.
You will learn to control short temper only with practice and persistence. Even if there is an episode where you reacted poorly, learn from it. Do not defend yourself. Let it pinch you, provoke guilt in you. Then you may control yourself better the next time.
Mediation and relaxation exercises are also tools you can use to help you calm down.
