Insects like bees and wasps can sting, causing pain and discomfort. A lot of insects belong to the stinging category. The sting venom is actually a kind of protein that gets inside the skin and into the blood stream.
An insect sting can cause allergic reaction to human beings.
An allergy happens when the body overreacts to a foreign invasion. The immune system of the body is responsible for producing antibodies that kill foreign invasion like bacteria or anything else.
Your body might express a high sensitivity towards the presence of something in the body through an allergic reaction.
Many people are not allergic to insect stings and bites. These people will only have some itching and swelling and redness on the affected parts.
Most people get stung in the hot season or just after it.
So how does one know if one has an allergic reaction to insect bites or stings?
Here are the symptoms of insect bite allergy…
- The first signs of an insect bite or sting is the same thing for people who have insect bite allergy and people who do not have insect bite allergy.
- If the insect bite or sting has passed on bacteria or virus into the body, then this can cause fever. Sometimes the area becomes infected, which also causes a rise of temperature in the body.
- Hypersensitivity will also cause the body to respond by making the allergic person breathless and gasping. If these reactions are not attended to, they might lead to fatality.
- Presence of insect bite allergy can be detected if the skin has eruptions that are a clear indication of allergy.
How to treat insect bite allergy…
Here are the options for treatment of insect bite allergy…
- If the redness and swelling around the affected area does not go away, start to apply an ice pack. But first, you need to thoroughly sanitize the affected area with a disinfectant lotion or soap.
- Calamine lotion is most used to reduce the itchy sensation.
- You can use antihistamines that work by warding of the negative effects of histamine. The body forms histamine when there is an allergic reaction. Antihistamines are taken orally.
- If this set of treatment does not work, then you have to take the patient to emergency medical care.
